Whether you are considering renewing your home flooring, or the flooring of a commercial space, there are a few things you need to consider before you get started. Of course, you need to think about colour, style, footfall, and intended usage, but just as important is to think about who is going to install your new flooring. The flooring contractors that you hire could make the difference between the perfect finish, and a floor that gives little in the way of financial or aesthetic value.
The first thing to remember when it comes to flooring contractors is that they are not all the same. Companies differ in their experience, expertise, price and quality. Some companies may focus only on commercial flooring, others on residential, some companies are just as skilled in both. It is important to have a clear idea what it is you are looking to achieve before you approach any company. This aids you in choosing a company that meets your needs. In addition to this, it is important to ensure that you do your research about any company that you are considering. This should include checking that they are insured, and that they have adequate training and experience. Flooring companies should, as a minimum, have Public Liability insurance. The top flooring companies have well trained staff and ensure that they hold CSCS Cards, as well as relevant qualifications. As well as checking references, take some time to look at reviews that have been left by previous clients, both on the company’s own site and on independent third-party sites. Once you have your short list, do not forget to get details of how the company intend to go about completing the job. This should include a timetable, rough finishing date, details of who will be on the job, when they will be arriving and how long you can expect them to be onsite each day. You should also be given details of who to contact in case of problems, and details of contingency plans, for example, if one of the commercial flooring contractors is unwell, or the weather makes continuing work difficult.
Finally, don’t forget to be honest with the company about your budget, any time constraints you have, and any difficulties they may face while working on the project. This could be anything from needing to work when you are closed, to having to start in specific rooms to allow for staff movement or deliveries. Honesty is always the best policy, especially when it comes to hiring the right flooring contractors.
